It’s that time of the year again, Santa, cookies and overeating! London becomes a city that welcomes families to take in all the Christmas sights. Whether you decide to head to London during the school holidays or just for a weekend, there’re a host of activities and attractions perfect for keeping the kids entertained with festivities.
The reasonably priced Travelodge Holborn hotel offers some great prices on family rooms and is centrally located, also a more affordable option compared with the likes of the neighbouring Leicester Square and Covent Garden.
Brimming with matinee performances, the West End isn’t just for the grownups. Amassed with productions that can be enjoyed by the whole family, The Lion King and Matilda the Musical are just a couple of shows on offer which guarantee to enthral even the most restless of youngsters.
Linking arm in arm with the festive season is pantomimes and London is the capital of panto, offering a whole host of raucous shows, putting their own twist on classic fairy tales. If you’re looking for something slightly different, head over to the O2 Arena, where a purpose built theatre under the canopy of the arena will present Aladdin, starring none other than the household drag siren, Lily Savage.
Don’t just head to the capital for theatre, though. There are a huge range of family festivities in store, including Hyde Park Winter Wonderland which has welcomed visitors for the past few years. This year has promised to be even bigger, with new attractions that will keep everyone entertained.
Slip on the ice skates and take to the ice on the outdoor rink – it doesn’t matter if you’re a dab hand at skating or you need to start a little slower, its great fun for all the family. Spend some time sampling the fairground rides, including the twinkling big wheel, before wandering the Christmas markets in search of a little handcrafted stocking filler.
The Magical Ice Kingdom will bring its visitors face to face with fantastically ornate ice sculptures, including the Ice Queen, unicorns and reindeer. Zippo’s Circus provides daytime shows for all to enjoy – or for a little thrilling evening entertainment, Cirque Berserk promises to satisfy.
Spend some time browsing the high street stores. Shop till you drop and tick off the last remaining gifts on your Christmas shopping list. Oxford Street is a haven for all, offering a multitude of high street brands and department stores. Keep the kids happy with a visit to the two-storey Disney store. Filled wall to wall with official Disney merch, if you don’t find what you’re after in here, you won’t find it anywhere.
Spend an afternoon enjoying the Christmas spirit and festive cheer, and head over to Hamleys Toy Shop to meet Santa Claus. With seven floors of toys, children (and those young at heart) will be in toy heaven. Finish the visit off by nipping over to Santa’s grotto for a perfect photo opportunity.
Get your fill of Christmas cheer in the festive capital of England. Grab an affordable family room in the heart of the city and spend some quality time with your family this December.
